Just wondering if anyone here knows a little on firebirds and trans am's? I just found this 1972 Pontiac Firebird with t-tops in my local area. vin# 2t87m2n515860 Can anyone decode this vin, and tell me more on this pontiac? Is this pontiac rare? I have tried doing a search on vin decoding but I just have had no luck finding a website to decode it.

It's a 1972 Firebird Esprit that originally came equiped with a Pontiac 350 2bb with single exhaust. It's kind of hard to tell from the pics, but if it has t-tops, the value would be hurt quite a bit, at least in the purist circles. The Firebirds didn't get t-tops until 1976-and that was on the Trans Am. In 1977 any Firebird could be ordered with t-tops.

Yeah, I kinda figured that t-tops came later. I guess the previous owner put a t-top roof on it. Car has a good body, looks like he has already done most of the body work himself. He took the motor and tranny out so I know that's another downfall. He's wanting $1800 for the car. Is that too much?

Too much for an Esprit. If it were a Formula or T/A, maybe-depending on the drivetrain.

I just sold my 74 Esprit with the original paint (and all the original paint) and no rust for $1500 minus motor/tranny. It had been in storage for almost 20 years. No body repair ever. None needed. That one is WAY too much.

Just wanted to let ya'll know. I decided to pass on this 72, the owner did come down on his price to $1300,but I bought something else instead. If anyone else is intrested in this 72 for $1300 cash let me know, and I can hook you up with the seller.
