VIN Number Locations
« on: February 18, 2016, 04:03:37 AM »
Hi All, I have found all my VIN numbers on the engine, transmission, and dash. They all match. I was wondering of the locations of other VIN numbers within the car. Especially the chassis. Within the past year I have bought a 1979 Trans AM 400 4 speed  black in black and I want to know if the chassis is original to the car. Does anybody have any information on where a VIN may be located on the chassis? Or even if the VIN on the chassis will match the VIN on the previous 3 places I mentioned earlier? Any other VIN locations for various things would welcome too. I do know that there are "hidden" VIN numbers as well, for police and such for chopped vehicles, but any info would be great. I am starting to think I have gem here.

The partial VIN is stamped twice on the firewall behind the AC/heater case...no VIN stampings on frame or elsewhere (besides the obvious dash plate).

Thanks for the reply.... I am having trouble locating the VIN your are referring to. Are you saying it is actually inside and I would have remove some stuff before seeing it? Thanks!

On firewall...under hood...behind ac-heater case.
Yes you'll have to remove the case.
