Topic: Rust in the intake manifold

I removed my Quadrajet so that I can rebuild it. I found some rust in the intake manifold. What is the best way to remove it? Preferably without having to remove the intake.

take it off and get it sandblasted.

You have to be really careful with sandblasting.  You would need to make sure there is absolutely nothing left in the intake or you risk ruining your engine.  Anything left in the intake will be sucked into the engine.

That's why I said to take it off.  Why is there rust in the intake anyways? Any loose rust scale could potentially be  devastating to the life of the engine. You need to take care of this properly

The car only has 40,000 miles on it. But it is been sitting for about 20 years. My best guess is that it is moisture or condensation accumulation. The motor wasn't running enough to suck that moisture through so it just sat

He needs to get the rust out, but he also needs to make sure there is no sand left in the intake.  He could probably use a dremel tool to get most of the rust out.  But it has to be perfectly clean to run it.

Go get a new edelbrock. Toss that in the garbage.   The secondary's are stopped off on that one anyway, and no  egr on the edelbrock either. Win win.

Plus the stock one is heavy like a fat chick in your car too.   No fat chicks, lol
