As I mentioned above, I need to replace the rear main on my car as well. Which type would you recommend for an Olds 455? Rope, neoprene, or something else I don't even know about yet?

I'd use the Best Gasket graphite rope seal, but if the Olds guys know of something better I'd love to hear from them.

I know stop leak for radiators is not a good idea because they usually contain solids to "plug" the leak which can also potentially clog normal passages etc in the radiator/cooling system. That's my understanding anyway.
The makers of this product seam to claim that there are no solids in this rear main seal repair product. Check the very last statement in the FAQ(the 2nd link).

"Will Bar’s Leaks rear Main Seal Repair clog my oil filter?
No. Unlike our cooling system products, Bar’s Leaks Rear Main Seal Repair has no particles to plug
the leak. It contains special polymers and seal conditioners to stop seal leaks."

What do you guys think??
