1976 Trans Am - Water Pump / Timing Cover Sleeve
« on: November 30, 2015, 05:40:36 PM »
Do the sleeves located in the water pump cavity (with water pump removed) come out without removing the timing chain cover?  Do they just pull out?  The rubber gaskets on mine are eroding away and I would like to replace them to insure good cooling  My sleeves do not budge when pulling on them, but I have not pulled hard because I do not want to damage anything.  It looks like the sleeves are in good shape, I see no corrosion.  Only the rubber gaskets are worn.  If I cannot get the sleeves out, can I just replace the rubber gaskets?  How do I do that, buy new sleeves and remove the rubber gaskets for the new ones and put into my old ones?  Are these gaskets cemented into the sleeves or do they come out freely.  Thanks.
