Gents,
I have one last question....is  7000 a good price for this car?
Would anybody know what the average price should be?
Am I paying under the market?...This is really hard to gauge
with the infomation that I am finding....

Regards
Martin

I thought we had already agreed it was a good price...I think Brett summed it up best:

It looks like a nice car for $7,000.  Sure if you can talk him down it would be a benefit to you, but really $7,000 is not a bad price to pay for it.  Yes, the no T-tops does hurt the value a little, yes the 301 does hurt the vlaue a little,.... but it is a Trans Am.  You can't really look at these cars for investment purposes...... they are meant to be driven.  If you are looking for investments, then maybe try purchasing an 80's Muscle car because those will be worth some money when the next generation comes around.  I don't think you willl loose money on the deal, but I also don't think there is alot to gain either.  But it is hard to say what the market is going to do on these cars.... I am a Trans Am guy, not a Market Analyst.  If you are looking for a Trans Am to drive and have fun in, then this car is not a bad deal as it sits right now.  But really the question you have to ask yourselfis "What Trans Am do YOU want to own?".  I mean do you want a 1979-81 style, do you really want a 1977-78 style or maybe an earlier style?  Do you want T-tops?  Do you want a Pontiac 400? What color Trans Am do you want?  So, those are the questions that you have to ask yourself before purchasing a Trans Am.  You can find great deals out there on Trans Ams still so don't just jump at the first thing you see.  Ask yourself want you want first, then go look for it.  I know it took me 8 months or longer to find the one I wanted.  I knew what I wanted and I waited for the right one to come along.  So, answer those questions first about what you want to have.  The worst thing is buying one, then regretting that you bought it because it wasn't what you REALLY wanted.  Like I said, there are still deals to be had out there for Trans Ams, so wait for your right one to come along.  And if this one is it..... don't pass it up.

Good luck with your purchase.
Jeff

As your the one paying for it and have kicked the tires on it  comes down to are you comfortable with $6800. from what I see it looks like it's a fair price. But do the Math...$6800 + whats it going to cost to get it where YOU want it to be? Are you going to lose sleep over that $$$$ If not buy it. JMHO

Update...I went again to Pick up / Look @ the car (with check in pocket)  I took it out again to test drive
it and a Issue surfaced....the Transmission.   I drove it last week and it seemed fine.  but yesterday it acted up..
I  moved the gear selector to the Drive position and gave it same gas It seemed to have a lag in getting the
car moving.....I got it out on the road and it again drove very nicely.   but evey time I came to a stop and
tried to start up again the engine would race and then I guess the tranny would engage and I could get
moving again..(this scared me) I had my wife with me and she was the voice of reason on this one
I really like the car but I really can't take on any tranny issues. (they cost too much money to fix)
if anyone here is interested in the car I could put you in touch with him...I now have the Bug to
get a second gen car....Thank you all for your insight on this car...When I find another
this will be one of places that I come for help.   :)

Well there not a dime a dozen thats for sure but there out there. I pretty much just stumbled across the 80 Turbo I bought last weekend. The guy needed money and he had to sell one of his toys. You'll find one.
