The engine code in 72-74 was on the 455 engine. What year is the engine you have?
Is this number on the engine or the vin.?
Engine codes in 78 are
A=231
K=403
L=350
U=305
Z=400

Don't really know. It is in a 79, which I know 400 only came with 4 spd and it is an auto car so I ma asuming it is not original motor. Was trying to find out what it came out of. May have to ask him to get mor info. "X7" was all he sent so far.

Ask for the VIN number and info off of the cowl plate. That will tell you alot about the car except for what has been changed if anything.

He could be thinking that 6.6 has to be the 400 but the 403 was also listed as 6.6
Have you looked at it in person? The 403 has engine code "K" which could be mistaken for a "X".
Do you have pictures of it or are you looking at it in person?

Only pics. Is defintely a 350 or 400 (or 455). Not a 403, no oil filler in front. Looks to big to be a 301. I'll call him and get some more info. Car is in KC, MO. I am in MS.

P.S. You also get 91cc's heads with that code too .

Are those good heads? Looking a little more seriously at this car now.

They're huge!  Largest cc's for that year.  So I guess they would be considered the best.

  Is that correct?  The X7 had the 6X4 at 91cc and the L78 had the 6X8 at 98cc.   Or am I off base? The smaller the chamber, the higher the compression?
