outside Door trim

I'm having trouble getting the chrome trim back on the top edge of the door, the plastic clip doesn't seem to want to fit where the trim curves up at the door edge, these are suppose to be trim clips for a 1979 firebird could it be the wrong clip? anyone have any tips for getting these on ? the clips hold ok where it's straight.
