Strange Y82 combo? - PHS ATTACHED
« on: August 22, 2011, 04:48:53 PM »
Hey guys I have a client buying a new interior for his 77 Y82.  He tells me the car is a hard top with firethorn/white interior.  I thought this was strange but then he emailed me the PHS and they wrote on it, Black exterior with firethorn/white interior.  It also lists Y-82 special edition package but also states hard top coupe.  Take a look and let me know what you think.  Is it a t-top delete car?

I will post the PHS shortly I have to figure out how to delete his name and info off of it first.  Stupid PDF's

That would make it Y81 (hardtop 77 SE were Y81)with an extremely rare interior combo
Make sure you get some pics once it's done...very cool

I'm pretty sure it either has to be a Y81 or a Y82.  I know the 79 Y84s had a t-top delete, but  I don't think they had a Y82 T-top delete car in 77.

Off subject here, but where there any Y82 hardtops in 78?

Didn't all the 77s come from the factory as hardtops?
Weren't they then sent to Hurst for the Hurst Hatch to be installed?

Interesting find.  But I need to see the build sheet or the PHS.

Herrel, I believe you are correct.  And I think fb rider is correct about Y81's being hardtops for 1977 as there were 1861 SE's made without t-tops.
you mean Trans Am Oz...1977 hardtop SE's were given the code Y81
Fb rider..no there are no 1978 Y84,Y82 or Y88 hardtops

Ok I have attached his PHS report.  Yes my thinking is that all the cars came as hard tops.  Once you ordered the t-tops they were given the y82 code and and the tops installed.  Is this correct or am I way off.  Anyways, the owner tells me he found this in a field in washington state and purchased it for 5000.  He promised to send pics as he is going to pick it up this week.

In 76' all LEs were Y82 with a few not having the ttops installed due to leaking issues

In 77 all SEs were Y81 (no ttops) or Y82 (with ttops).

In 78 all SEs were Y82, Y84 or Y88 and all were documented as ttops.  I don't know of any documented SE's in 78 that had a hard top.

In the case for any Y81 or Y82 the cars were completed as black TAs with whatever interior was ordered and then shipped to a hurst installer\dealer where all of the specific interior pieces were replaced with gold accented pieces.  The tops were installed at the hurst place during this time, with the decals and striping being installed last.  Then the cars were shipped to their dealerships.

Hurst didn't fit the gold inserts / dash bezel, this was done by Pontiac at the time of the car build along with the decals. Hurst only fitted the T-Tops.
