wanted to buy
« on: February 13, 2007, 01:00:25 AM »
It's been a while since I posted this and thought I'd try again. I'm looking for:
A pair of lower door panels for a 76 Trans am in great to excellent shape. Must be white and I'll pay a fat hefty finders fee that leads to a sale.

The tin wiring covers that go under the door sill plates for both sides.

    The timer for rear defog

A 76 and down power window switch in very good condition.

Red spare tire inflator bottle (have a mint blue one with cap for trade.

A Firehtorn 4 speed console. Or any color as long as the console is sturdy and rigid.

Thats it for now, I have tons of stuff and love to swap, buy, sell anytime. Email ramairponcho@hotmail.com

I have a set of the tin wire covers.  One is in excellant shape.  It has already been blasted.  The other one is in o.k. shape.  It has some rust damage at one of the ends.  Let me know if your interested and i'll send you some pix. Damian.

I was at GM sports salvage a couple of weeks ago.  They had two 1981 T/A's with nice defogger glass.  They want $100.  I was thinking of picking one up because they were better than the one on my car.

I spotted a very slightly picked over loaded 77 TA last time I was in SC and asked the guy to keep it away from the vultures until I get back. Maybe I can scarf the few items I need before the car gets put in with the "general population".

I'm still in the dark about the defog. I know there is a big purple wire that goes to the back glass from the main harness and I've found that connector on my harness. I know there is a defog switch that is mounted on the cigarette lighter housing/instrument panel and I have the plug in my wiring harness that plugs into the switch and I have the switch. Here's where it gets dark...

According to the wiring schematic there is a relay or timer that mounts behind the dash near the glovebox liner. Does anyone know what this setup looks like? Is there a separate jumper harness that splits off the harness that plugs into the defog switch? I say that because the plug that goes into the defog switch has a couple of wires that I can't really determine where they go. And, they are about the right length to reach over to the glovebox. I'd love to see a picture of timer/relay mounted in it's original location.

Anyone????

There is a ten minute timing circuit that shuts the current off after ten minutes.  If you pull the glove compartment...it's on the drivers side.  The timing circuit has four blades that accept two connectors.  The connectors should be hanging right by the side of the glove compartment because they came with your harness.  One connector fits over three of the blades, and their is a connector with a black wire (ground) that fits over the single remaining blade.  And, other than that purple wire, that's it.

However, there was a switch during 1977.  Here's the link from Joe Bay's website which also shows where the circuit is located:

Russ, You are 'da MAN! That exactly the kind of picture I've been hunting! I get on Joe's site from time to time but can't see how I missed that section. Anyway, PERFECT. Now I know that I have the wiring for everything under the dash. My harness that plugs into the defog switch does have the jumper to go over to the timer. I had thought that jumper to be a connection to the heater/A/C box... Now I see it's not.

Only parts needed now are the timer and the purple wire. YEAH!!

The purple wire looks like it's available from classic.  The timing circuit is the hard item to find.

Yeah, I emailed Ken down in Georgia when I first started hunting. He ususally has weird hard to find stuff like that. He guts quite a few cars.
Russ, I may buy the wire new but figured I should be able to find the whole setup eventually kind of cheap. Thanks for the tip about Classic.

Evan, I'm holding in a circular pattern waiting on you to get you as* back to MD and hook me up with defog parts. LOL. Be sure to stop and see me, I wanna show you my other 76 (white) Trans am

Eroc, Interested in those parts for sure. Especially the white lower door panels. Hook a brother up???

Eagle, I've been watching that auction for the wire and may bid on it. I'd like to find someone with both parts and maybe save a few bucks by not having to pay shipping for several boxes. Thanks and I'll be watching it.
