What I've been doing...
« on: December 13, 2008, 01:48:56 PM »
After wearing myself out from T/A's, after working on them for the past 4-5 years, I wanted to try something different. I picked up this car from a buddy of mine over the summer. Originally a 2.6L Turbo car with a 5-speed manual. Motor was bad in the car, so it was removed and sourcing down an engine proved to be incredibly difficult.

So I dragged it into the garage last weekend,  and began the carnage.

I'm working on pulling everything out of the engine compartment right now, have a few things I want to get rid of still, the stock transmission is still in the car for now. Then I will begin fitting the Mopar 360 in there. The only thing I need to get for it yet is the transmission. For ease of installation, I'm probably going to go with a 727 automatic instead of a 5-speed.

Hmm interesting Joe. Can the car handle the hp you're tossing at it?

Without a problem.

There is quite a few swapped cars running around. There is a turbo LS1 running around 600hp and the car is pretty much stock aside from the transmission/engine.  8) Search Cinquest on Youtube or Streetfire :)

I always liked the looks of them too, kind of like a poor man's 944.  I didn't know there were Conquests out there with V8 swaps; are there actually kits made for that or do you have to manufacture everything yourself?  What about motor mounts and stuff like that?

One of those would be sweet with a big block in it!

Chrysler Conquest TSi/Mitsubishi Starion ESi-R

A big block will not fit, unfortunately. Just too wide.

That did give me another idea though... instead of the stock build that produces maybe 250-300hp (Mopar 360, with intake, cam, etc. stock otherwise) I could use the built Pontiac 400 that I had built for the red Trans Am. I did some rough measurements in the dark, and the engine mounting locations on the 400 would actually be BETTER to mount in the Conquest. No frame cutting would be needed, but with the 360 I would need to cut the frame and extend it forward to make it possible to mount the 360.

Hmmmmmmm.

As for there being a kit made for them, nope. All custom, but there are guys that have done smallblock Ford swaps, smallblock Chevy swaps, etc. I don't think anyone has done a Pontiac swap, though.
