maybe I could have modified the fan, mounted it in the interior and spun it with my finger (or a hamster in a wheel)...I could save weight by removing the battery and alternator  ;D

LOL.

I thought the cooling fans are meant to run for a few minutes after the car is turned off to continue blowing cold air on the motor? I bet if you followed the wiring you would have found it was tied to the ignition and to the battery with some sort of solenoid or timed relay.

no,,I wired it so that when I turned the key, the fan would automatically start and when I turned the key off  it would stop. but the fact it was finnishing its spin was enough to keep the car running.  That car came with no electric fan, I think i bought it from jc whitney or something. i cant remember.

most fans are on a delay when starting and stopping so i advise you find another source of power

that car has been gone for 15 years now.  I liked the msd but could I prove it was doing anything? No
