I would do some checking on some dimensions.  From the looks of things, someone may have swapped in a 73 or newer rear from a G-body. The brackets the lower control arms and shocks mount to don't look like ANYthing of that body style, 72 and older. Check the date code on the rear housing on one of the strengthening ribs by the cover. measure plate to plate and I'll check my car if needed. You should have a 8.2" rear. I have a feeling that isn't in the car you have there... Theres no reason for the springs to be like that. Something's up... Mike

Thanks...I will look for some codes.
Looks like the original undercoating though...guess they could have painted the rear end...here are a few other photos.
The worst spot is the trunk...floors are solid.

looks like he may have the trailing arm in wrong or a rotted frame on front of arm, hard to see from pics did he weld new brackets on front of trailing arm for traction bars and maybe has them at wrong angle

looks to me you have either twisted trailing arms or the upper trailing arm mounts on the frame are either snapped or bent backwards.
as for the differences, iceman beat me to it.
the 71-72 lemans front ends are nice not a fan of the endura front for them years but you could stuff a 68-70 gto hood on having that nose on there right now. you could also stuff a 70 gto endura on there which does look nice too.

another thought is make sure the upper trailing arms have bolts in them. the bad thing about the g body rears is they appear the same so based on the pics you have i cannot tell if you have an A body or G body rear as i cant see the whole axle.

The car actually has a 70 front end...no endura styling.
I'll shoot some more photos when I get some decent light.
I'm guessing it is a 1973 and later, because both mounts are twisted the same amount the wrong direction.
The previous owner spent some cash...he was just too dumb to finish the project.
I don't think it will be that difficult to swap out the rear..
Hopefully someone can positively identify the rear end setup.
If it is from a Pontiac..it would be from a B Body...Catalina or Bonneville.
It is a 2.73 or 3.08 posi according to my measurements.

i wonder if the upper trailing arms have been extended. i know you have a 70 nose and hood on there. i was saying you could put the 68-70 gto hood on it and even put the 70 gto endura nose on it.
and I hate the 71-72 gto hood and endura nose but like the 71-72 lemans nose better on them years.

I like the Classic look of the Pontiac of the early 1970's...the nice chrome bumpers are in pretty good shape...
Car must have been undercoated and garaged it's whole life....120,000 miles I'm guessing.
The endura stuff is overpriced.
