78 Formula Resto-Mod
« on: October 05, 2012, 11:07:47 PM »
Here's what I started with a 78 Formula from 4speed76. Installed floor panels, rear valance behind bumper, drivers side rear quarter. Sandblasted underside and frame, epoxy primed and painted. Stripped entire body down to bare metal. Installed a LS1 from a 2002 WS6, including 4l60E 4 seed auto, shortened driveshaft to suit. S/S brake lines front to back, fuel system for the LS1. Dual electric fans and 02 rad. Custom gauge panel. Eibach front springs all poly bushings. Car is currently at the paint shop, going to be Dark matalic grey. Also had all the outer chrome moldings powder coated semi gloss black. Interior is going to be tan with summit racing buckets and stock rear seats. More Pics to come.

Cool just how I did most of mine, I like it, another guy is turning his 76 into a ls1 t56, and another guy I know is going ls1 4L60E. I like watching these cars come together and it quite easy putting the ls into em. Tell me more about what conversion parts you used, and did you do anything to the motor ?

So far the drivetrain is stock, but have a cam, valve springs, larger fuel rails, 3200rpm stall and sift kit waiting to go in. I also bought HP tuners programmer to get rid of the VATs and rear 02 sensors and tuning for the mods. Can't wait to get it back from the body shop and put it back together.

Very easy mod. Just got the dash and cluster installed, will get pics shortly. I used Speed Hut gauges, the speedo has the turn and high beam indicators on the gauge. The original turn signal holes in the cluster now have an engine light(Ls1) and the gauge light dial installed there.

Just an update, had them both out yesterday. Still need some tuning on the LS1 78. Will update with some more pic shortly.

Nice choice for color. It looks very close to mine. With my swap I have to do something about the shaker though. I might try and find a formula hood for mine. Nice work.

I went with speedhut gauges too.

Wow, great work! I really like the formy's, and it is cool to see modern drive trains in these cars. Love the color too!
