10 bolt questions
« on: June 03, 2011, 07:05:02 AM »
After talking to a few people, with the new setup thats going on my car, I think my weak link is going to be the 10 bolt.  Is there anything that can be done to strengthen it up? it has a new posi carrier and gears, but original axle's.  how much tq and hp will it safely withstand?  don't want to get into it and be sitting on my frame rales.

8.5 is a tough rear end.My 87 Buick GN had well over a 100 passes on the stock rear.the car ran 7.20 in the 1/8 pulling 1.50 short times.

8.5's are very strong. I've seen many guys going in the single digits and swear by them as they use less power than a 9" or 12 bolt. If you are building a drag car, then some aftermarket axles, c-clip eliminators and a cover girdle is a good start, but for a street car stock should be just fine for quite a bit of power.

I agree. The 10 bolt is a strong rear and should hold up well.My neighbor runs a 11 second camaro with a 10 bolt in it.
