1978 Formula with factory vinyl top,Code CB7 on build sheet
« on: December 06, 2015, 10:50:51 AM »
Hello I picked up a 78 Formula that was advertised as a Trans Am roller. Went and looked at it and seen it was a clone and the owner said it had a vinyl top from the factory on it when he bought it and removed it, I told him they haven't produced a vinyl top f body since 1975 and he said let me go get the build sheet and there it is code CB7 on the sheet and the body tag and Vin all match.......So was this a special order car??

So was this a rare option I've never seen one, and would the vinyl top be Silver like the car or Carmine like the cloth seats? Does anyone know where I can find the trim pieces to reinstall the vinyl top???

I always seen full vinyl tops but not a front partial...if I'm looking at that right?

I don't know how rare it was, but it sure was available. Here's Classic Industries catalog:

Seems like CI only offers black, but here are what colors was available.

With a silver (Platinum) car, it would be either Platinum or white vinyl top.

They definitely did offer the top on models under the TA. They were only a half top as per blue car pic posted by mikekop It's one thing to find material (most upholstery places can prob source as well as resto places above) but also to find the trim divider strip.
