1979 Y84 Trans Am value
« on: June 19, 2012, 09:56:17 AM »
Hello guys,

Seems like I will have to part with my Trans Am, because I want to find 1977 or 1978 Firebird Formula or Trans Am in driver condition.
My Trans Am is located in Eastern Europe, but your opinions for its value in the US(if it was in the US) are very good staring point to create a reasonable initial asking price.
So it is 1979 real Y84 with 301 V8 non turbo with T tops and auto transmission.
The good -
new professional paint on a rust free body
wheels redone
very good tires
new exhaust
new headlights
new brakes, master brake pump, brake cylinders, shocks, water pump, fuel pump, engine head gaskets, rebuilt carburator
very good interior - 95% of the seat upholstery is original and in great shape, new headliner
the electrical system was refreshed
The transmission shifts well
Runs and drives very well
The suspension is in good working order
The mileage is 58 500 and I believe is original, because the car have been in storage for about 15 years, before i to buy it, but I can not prove the mileage with any documents.

The bad:
The stripes and the hood bird are not original
The AC compressor and some AC lines are gone
One of the T tops is leaking
The inner plastics of the t tops have small missing pieces
The left passenger window is very scratched
The floor carpet is new, but is not original - I made it by myself
I have removed the EGR system
The windshield washer system is working, but due to a slow response I installed a modern one that works
The transmission works fine but leaks
The dashboard has a very thin crack
The original floor mats are in bad shape
The gold dash plate was faded and now it has a gold folio that looks like the original.
The horn cap was painted, one of the metal stabilizer bars is missing, the jack is missing. I have only the original foldable spare tire, but haven't tested it.
The clip that attaches the shaker to the filter is missing, the part where the hose from the air filter box goes is missing. Here are few pictures that I hope will give you an idea how the car looks.
Thank you in advance for your time and for your opinions.

Regards,
Peter

Do you guys think that $ 8500 is a good price for this vehicle if it was in the US? Thanks.

I might go 10 to 12 as most things that are bad are small little things.

your major drawback is the 301. That may be viewed differently in Europe.

I would say 5-7k

A non-turbo 301 is a dog compared to a pontiac 400, or an Olds 403.

I understand.
What is the difference in the 0-60 mph acceleration and quarter mile time between the 301 non turbo and 400 and 403?

stock state the 400 was 15.1-14.7 depending on tester and gearing. the 403 was 16.1-15.7 and the 301's were 17's. your mini van would smoke them.

being the 301's topped out around 90, 0-60 was slow.  think some 400's were 7s or so.
