1978 Trans Am T-Tops
« on: July 11, 2007, 07:46:15 PM »
I'm looking to buy a 1978 Trans Am.  It has American T-Tops in it.  I've never heard of these before, are these rare?  Does this increase or decrease the value of the car since not that many T/A's have them.  Does anyone know if they are problematic, ie leaking?.

Thanks

Try this:. It's under Tech Talk/Hurst (and other) t-tops.

The American T-Top was an aftermarket T-top that could be installed.  They weren't done by the factory, they weren't done by the delaers, they were installed by owners who were sick of the Hurst T-tops leaking.  They are about the same as Hurst t-tops, but about an inch deaper.  I would say it neither hurts nor increases the value of the car.  It hurts it a little more because they are aftermarket.
