Good deal on Trans am? Please help!
« on: February 22, 2015, 01:46:28 PM »
Hi guys. I'm new here, and I need a second opinion on this 1980 T/A I'm looking at on Craigslist. It hasn't driven in a few years, but it runs good. It's a T-Top car. it has air conditioning, but the car doesn't have a compressor. it has power windows and locks. The engine that's in it is a built 350. transmission has shift kits. He wants 3000 OBO. He said he would take a very flexible offer. It seems like a pretty good deal, but I don't know. What do you guys think?

                                                      thanks for looking,
                                                                                   Jon.

Jon, the 2nd generation cars are getting old and it's only what the value is worth to you.  I bought a '79 400 4spd Trans Am 5 years ago and blew the motor the first day driving it.  It turned into an immediate rebuild on the engine but I now have a car that's way faster and I don't have any regrets.

If the car drives, isn't rusted beyond belief and hasn't been wrecked...then I'd say you have a good deal.  Cool looking car for the money and good luck.  Post some pics on here if you end up buying it.

Jon

For me looking at a car, 1st...interior. especially the limited production ones=$$$$$$.  Motor
And trans easy. Body work for me= can't do very well. And everybody has to deal with paint in that price range.

Well, The guy just dropped the price $300. It will probably be gone before I can even take a look at it. Hope not.

Probably way ahead of the game with either of these two even though they are higher on the front end. I live in Jackson, MS and run across them quiet often.

Hard to always say, but I'm thinking I've seen better at that price. Sorry.

Really look at the color white, hides alot. I have a car at the shop were they did an inch...no really.  An inch of bondo everywhere on the car. It was the best job I've ever seen, lucky for me  it wasn't a keeper.
