The "Z" code is for both the L78 "base" 400 and the W72 "hi-po" 400. The only way to know if the car is a true W72 is to check the build sheet and/or PHS docs.

The Hurst Dual Gate shifter is aftermarket and has been added on at some point in the cars life.

Go to http://www.phs-online.com and get your documentation on the car, that will tell you.

You can always check to se if the vin #s are on the engine/ trans. Then you know for sure.
