1972 Pontiac 455 #485428 Vs. 1971 Pontiac 400 YS
« on: January 17, 2009, 11:56:09 PM »
Hey guys I am looking at a 72 pontiac 455 #485428 engine to build a stroker motor for my 78 ta, as well as a 1971 YS 400 engine . Which engine should i get? What are the pros/cons of each? The seller of the 455 wants $450 for the block alone. The guy with the 400 wants $500. The 400 is complete minus the intake.

Thanks
-Tom

The iinformation I have show that casting number to be a 455 block with multiple uses in the early 70s.  One of those listed is for an HO engine.  If you had the block stamping (2 letter code on front of passenger side) we could narrow it down a bit.

The 455 blocks don't grow on trees anymore, but I don't know how pricing runs in your area.  If it was sound and I wanted one I'd have it for that price.
