Tired of Fisher T Tops Rattling, Im stumped!
« on: September 01, 2017, 09:02:53 PM »
I swear that I remember that my T-Top latch pins use to have a plastic coating/cover on them to make a tight and non metal/metal contact when it is locked in.  Driving with bare pins means there is some hop and lift on the tops, and this may also break the seal with the window pushing up on them.
Now of course I ignored that for 25 years now, but since I am replacing my upholstery now, its on my mind, and I finally registered for this site to solve this mystery.
I see NO mention on the internet anywhere for this, and there is no replacement ends I can find, only the grommets and tabs for the middle pillar.

Am I wrong?

Should I figure out a way to custom make some type of replacement?

I have a gray set that was taken off back in the 80's.  I'll look on the pins.  My 78 is prob wore off.

Ames Performance has these plastic clips you are looking for - part # FH519.  When I bought my TA 15 yrs ago it was missing these and this is where I got them from; and never had a rattling issue since.  ;D

this post is kind of old... but hes not talking about the plastic insert clips for the t top frames that enage the tabs at the roof, hes talking about the latch rods that engage the metal blocks when the tops are latched.  originally the rods had a thick plastic coating on them... after years of use the coating wears off.

nobody makes a specific product for this but there are options, cheapest & easiest way is to wrap 1 or 2 layers of electrical tape on the bare metal rods, it wont last too long but will prevent metal to metal contact as described.  other option is to use plasti-dip & put a good coating on the rods... it too wont last forever but should do what you want & can be reapplied when needed.

There’s a tech bulletin for the noisy/leaking fisher t tops.  I have it.
If you want to buy a copy pm me.   I paid a lot to get the binder $25 for the bulletin.
