Need help locating/identifying horn relay
« on: June 11, 2006, 08:20:13 PM »
The owner manual only says that the horn relay is under the dash, along with the fuse panel. Where exactly is it? What does it look like?

There's a picture of it in this TAC thread....it's a long one but it's there.

Now I'm even more confused. The thread mentioned that picture 13 might be the horn relay, but there are only 9 pictures. Could he mean picture 3?

I found the part on eBay:

I guess its time to crawl under and see if I have anything like this, or an empty connector that would fit!

It's picture 3 that shows the horn relay connector.  The color of wires are correct for 1978...I know that for a fact cause I found it on the wiring diagram.

If your really need to find out where it is, I have a couple of spare wiring harnesses and I could measure the distance from the fuse box for you.

Classic also sells that part.

Problem solved. I got a hold of the repair manual, and it had a pretty good troubleshooting section for the horn. (By the way, an easy way to check if the horn relay is working is to crawl under while you hit the button. If the relay is working, you will hear it click.)

I tracked it all the way down to the horns themselves. Dead. A pair of 1996 Caprice A and F note horns off eBay, and I'm good to go!
