Topic: September 2010 Spotlight - 1978 Pontiac Formula of Kevin Martin

The Spotlight for this month is a younger member here on this forum (joining on June 24th, 2008) that has a passion for these cars just like many we have here.  This month we are Spotlighting Kevin Martin's (aka Anastasio92 and now known simply as KEVIN) 1978 Firebird Formula.

Kevin was just 16 years old when joining this forum. But after Kevin drove his father's 70 Charger, he knew he had to get myself a muscle car of his own. "Two years ago I was 16 and needed a car of my own. So I decided to go for an old car that would be fun to restore. We stumbled on a 78 Camaro, but passed. A few days later my dad scored the bird for $2,700 and since then I've been restoring her."  

Here's what she looked like when Kevin bought her.  





He started the body work on the car....

The interior was completed by MrPontiac80 (Michael Russell) and pays homage to Michael Russells resourceful interior skills and artful perfection. Just take a look Kevin's interior:


Kevin really liked Joe Diccico's Black and Gold Formula and decided to have his done in the same paint scheme in tribute.  Here are pictures of Mr80Pontiac's car and Kevin's car together and one of just Kevin's beauty.

Kevin, it's great to have the younger generation like yourself interested in our wonderful cars and to see how well you've done your own car.  It is something to be proud of!

Thanks so much for picking me Hammer. I really appreciate that you guys have done for me over the past two years, and I know that this car would not look like it does had you guys not helped me. Special thanks to Brian C, Frank and Heidi Martin, Michael Tyler, Rick Stevens, Pete at Fbody Warehouse, Jim Lehart (for helping me get the right parts for my 400 I'm going to build), Chris (SoonerTa) for putting up with my long and in depth phone calls full of stupid questions from a first timer. You guys have been extraordinary in your generosity for helping me find parts (y88rick especially) and for helping me in detail with some tough problems I've had to deal with, remember electrical issues? I can't believe I've gotten to where I am with the car, and I'm so grateful that I've been able to meet and befriend some of the coolest and most helpful Fbody people on the net. You guys give and give, and when I can I try to give back with some knowledge I've gained from you guys and my experiences in trying to fix this thing.

Michael Russel== The best interior man in the business! Turned my basket case interior into something I can be proud of. If anyone lives in the Northwest Arkansas area, I highly recommend this gentleman to restore your interior. He's a true professional and a great contact to have if you're really into these cars.

Future projects: 400 Build this December (based heavily on Rkeller's build), tranny rebuild, and suspension upgrades.. Gotta wait for the money and time to fall into place, but you guys will be the first to know anything if it happens.

So thanks again everyone, this place means the world to me and has played a big part in my life outside of school for the past two years.

Gotta head out, my Business Law class is getting ready to start, so I'll post something later.
