October 2010 Spotlight - 1977 Trans Am of Herrell Hallmark
« on: November 02, 2010, 10:04:38 PM »
This month's Spotlight goes out to a man that hears the call of the road.  Herrell Hallmark (aka dblhh here) and his lovely wife Wanda had some fun from Herrell's mid life crisis at 40 yrs old and actually drove tractor trailer trucks for a living for two years.  But he eventually resorted to going back to his true day job as a newspaper editor where he remains the mild mannered reporter.  Until he gets in his Trans Am to where I am sure he fells like Superman.  And Herrell's no stranger to owning Pontiac's as his high school car was a green 1968 GTO with a 400 auto.

Herrell has been a member here since this site started.  He's a great member and highly respected in the Firebird community. I've been lucky enough to meet and speak with Herrell over the years.  He's a humble man but has a huge wealth of knowledge about these cars that makes him an asset for any site that becomes part of.  I had could have spent more time with such a mild mannered man while he was here at the Trans Am Nationals as I know I could call on him for anything and he would help out.  You will not find a bigger Pontiac Firebird Enthusiast then Herrell.  He's a great guy.

Herrell and his wife love animals.  He and Wanda have a Border Collie dog named Meesha, which in Slovenian means "mouse" (I don't get that?), and a cat named Belle.  And I've never saw Herrell without his trademark full grown beard.  It sure makes him look distinguished.

Herrell's first Trans Am was this 1978 Martinique Blue T-top 400 WS6 Trans Am purchased NEW in July of 1978.  Yep, he stole his wife's heart away in it in 1980 when they got married.  Herrell stated, this is the "one that got away" and he wished he still had it.

His 2nd 1978 Martanique Blue Trans Am.  Notice no T-tops or 8" rims.

Herrell has a lot of friends and he even took two 20 hour trip to see some friends at the Trans Am Nationals in 2009 & 2010.  His buddy Steve has a very nice 79 Trans Am that they brought to the Nationals this year.  Here he is with the Ohio Firebirds President of 2009, Lomileta.

Here are friends of Herrell's near his home, Bryan and Mike.

My favorite view!

Just a beautiful car

What a beautiful car.  Congratulations Herrell, for being the Spotlight of the month for October 2010.

When I first saw this I was flabbergasted and didn't know what to say, and didn't have the time to write anything since I was busy working on election results in our county and getting the newspaper out by today's deadline. I'm honored to be included among those who have been spotlighted in the past, although I think my T/A is not quite on the same quality level as previous ones.
Thanks to Hammer for the nomination and to Hitman for this site, as well as all the nice comments from everyone. I don't post alot myself, but I usually stop by and read the posts by others on a daily basis. There are great people here and many I personally count as friends. ;D

... He and Wanda have a Border Collie dog named Meesha, which in Slovenian means "mouse" (I don't get that?) ...

When I read this, Mike, it cracked me up. Although I didn't know the meaning of the word, that fits our dog to a "T." She is one of the most timid dogs I have ever seen in my life. She was the runt of the litter and was starving when she was given to my wife. Meesha is full grown and healthy now, but still won't fend for herself around others.
Just so you know, my wife named her after a shepherd in the Bible since the man who owned her trains Border Collies to herd sheep.
