Topic: emergency brake cable routing ?

This may be a dumb question....

On a 1981 T/A, with rear brake drums and dual exhaust BUT single feed pipe, are the emergency brake cables supposed to go under the exhaust and rest / rub against the exhaust?

Are they supposed to go above the exhaust?  If not designed that way, as anyone rerouted them and how involved was that modification?

Stock would be under exhaust, I have seen people put them over the exhaust, but either way as long as it works
