Yet another SE pass off
« on: September 08, 2007, 06:18:08 AM »
I sent this guy an email, I dont see any gold anywhere, no gold birds no gold dash, no gold steering wheel spokes.

What are your thoughts

I see some really faded stripes around the car, gold bird on the steering wheel, and what looks like gold spokes on the steering wheel, and the most inportant thing, the invoice showing it as a Special Edition.
Maybe he added some pictures?

I have to agree with warbird. I see the gold bird emblem and faded spokes. The phs is the clincher. I would say its real.
The 403 SE are not nearly as rare as the W72, there were like 9,800 made as opposed to 1,107 of the 400 4spd.

Yep, I can see the faded stripes, the larger SE sail panel birds, the gold grilels up front, the gold bird on the steering wheel, the gold on the dash behind the missing RTS emblem, and of course the PHS documents.

Well that model constitutes around 8% for the total production in that year.  Alot of people would consider that rare I suppose.  I can't blame him for listing it that way especially on a no reserve auctiion.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE:

In his defence, he did politley answer my email message, thanking me for my attention, he also posted the PHS document after I emailed him and told me had done so, since receiving my email.
He gave a good clear and detailed explanation of the car and why it was an SE.
He came across as an OK guy and having good knowledge of SE cars and Trans Ams in general.
Looks like I jumped the gun on this one, sorry team.  :P ::)

But I do agree not all that rare, although they are becoming sought after, as we all know.

Cheers

Although it is not rare for an SE (403 automatic most common one built), it is rare for a 1979 SE which accounts for only 8% of total production.  So, it is rare for a 1979, but not rare (most common) for an SE.

Which was the point I was trying to make.  The seller was only using good marketing in the labeling of his car and I wouldn't exactly call him a liar or misleading.  I'm new to Trans Am's but have dealt with classic Fords for a long time, I thought they were a serious crowd but y'all are on top of your game too.  As a side note today I just bought my first T/A, an anniversary car and since it's the only one I got that makes it rare   :)  Look forward to getting to know all you guys.

I didn't see the 8" gold snowflakes. Just plain old 7" gold snowflakes.  ;)

Not all Special Editions got WS6, so 7 inch snowflakes would/could be correct.
Also, that's a California car, says so on the invoice.
