"SE"? in PA
« on: October 23, 2007, 12:48:57 PM »
I've been watching this one for a couple of days, but it's gone up higher ($6,000 at this point) than I'm willing to pay for an undocumented "SE" that's starting to rust, lousy pictures, and with no keys to see if the engine will even turn over.  I've contacted the seller twice with requests for SE documentation - the first response was "such as?".  I sent a more detailed request and the response was "No, I do not have any of those things.  The decals on the car ARE wrong, they are 1979-1981 decals.  I have replacement decals new in the box for 1977."  It may well be a true SE, but I'd be hesitant to buy it without knowing for sure.

This may be one of those where the bidder will have to get the VIN (somehow, since he doesn't list it) and do the PHS fax-back thing.  I don't know how else you'd be able to tell what it is, or rather WAS went it left the factory. :-\

I'm not too good with the SE yet, but where they all Full Equiped?
Like this one doesn't have pwr window.
I kinda though these were the top of the line T/A with all the goodies you could get...
Current project:

The special edition package in 1977 consisted of a gold dash, gold steering wheel spokes, a gold bird on the horn, a gold bird on the shifter (for an automatic), gold headlight bezels, and the gold SE (german) striping, lettering, and hood bird.  It also had gold covers over the window crank holes if it had power windows.  The nose crest and wheel cap emblems were red in 1977 (changed to gold in 78).  The Y81 SE package did not have t-tops, the Y82 SE package had Hurst t-tops.

Other than that, some had very few options and some were loaded.

The only way to tell if it's a true SE is with either a build sheet, original window sticker, or to order documentation from PHS using the VIN.
