![]() Hey guys, nice site-a little story for you trans am nuts,In the spring of 2001 I chased down a 2000 silver TA.Not realizing the owner of the car was an old friend and fellow firefighter Sam Oitice.I said to Sammy,"we have to get together soon and take a picture of our cars together".I own a 75 TA with 14,800 original miles on it.(Silver in color) I had blown the clutch in 1990 the year after I bought a boat. The boat was being used more than the TA so I just let it rest in the garage.Marriage came along and then the 2 kids with the house,SUV,new addition etc, needless to say the clutch job and what ever else needed to be done was put on the back burner. As the summer went by Sammy had mentioned to me that it would be nice to have a photo of the 2 cars taken down along the riverfront in Peekskill NY.We are about 35 miles north of New York City. 2 TA's together,25 years apart, and the same color would make a nice poster for both of us. As September came along I still didn't have plans to fix the trans am because of some other projects around the house that I also thought more important than fixing the TA.On Sept 11 the world changed for alot of us.The last thing on my mind was my TA in the garage. Living close to NY City and less than 1 mile from Indian Point nuclear power plant our world here was in an uproar. As a firefighter the fire service was in shock,we lost 343 of the bravest, men who put there lives on the line day in day out. FDNY is the "VARSITY" of fire departments throughout the world and they took a big hit that has changed alot of things for alot of people. For myself it has changed things also,I am a firefighter in a city that borders ny city and I am also a firefighter in the NY Air National Guard. Our normal lives have been disrupted alot but at least I am alive. My feelings are that you only live once and that you should enjoy today because tomorrow may not be here. Since 9/11 I have been working on the 75 TA,Clutch job, rear main seal,4 new GF Goodrich T/A tires.I am really starting to enjoy the car again,in fact this morning (Easter Sunday) my wife and I and 2 kids went to church in a 28 year old Pontiac Trans AM. The picture will be taken soon with Sammy's 2000 TA but the photo will be with Sammy's son John,Sammy was one of the 343 firefighters that were killed on 9/11. A young man who loved his job, loved life, and was loved by many ! Rest in peace FF Sammy Oitice,FDNY Ladder Co# 4. Not to drag this story on any longer I guess that the message that I want to send to others is,"GET THE CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE AND USE IT,ENJOY IT,AND BE PROUD OF IT!"
