Hitman,
Your site was one of the first I found when I became interested (or more accurately 're-interested)
in my 78 TA about 10 months ago. I refer to it often. Great site. Keep up the good work.
............
I am the original owner. The car is a numbers matching 1978 W72, WS6, 4sp, 3.42 rear, custom vinyl
interior, factory no air, no radio, no power anything except steering and brakes, 69,000 miles. No rebuilds.
A few items have been replaced such as alternator, water pump, radiator, shocks, tires but no major items.
Thanks much,
Zulu

"here is a picture of my car it looks a bit different now but this is the only picture ive got. this picture is in 1997 ,,its got a new motor and well a pro street setup now i will try and send a new picture soon if you want .I got the car in 87 and havn't quit fixing it up yet ,....probably somewere in the exess of 25,000"

I have never stopped enjoying my 78 Formula. It is a great ride, but I was always a fan of a 79 Trans Am with a 400 4 speed. I knew someday I'd get the car I couldn't own was I was a kid. Last March I was checking out Ebay when a 60,000 mile 79 4-speed 400 caught my eye. It wasn't long before I got into the bid process, and quick there after I pulled the trigger and won the bid. Before I knew it I was making arrangements for this Ohio Trans Am to travel to Florida.

The car looked solid from the many photos I was sent, but I knew it was far from show condition. It traveled on an open truck through a snow storm and was positioned down low on the truck. Needless to say it arrived a filthy mess, and I was washing it at 10pm that night shortly after taking possession.

It was a great 10 footer, but upon close inspection I knew this car needed a laundry list of things before it would see any show. I told myself I would have this car in show condition in 3 years. However, one thing lead to another and soon I was into a full restoration. The tacky cherry bomb exhaust had to go, and the faded interior was sad to look at.

Before long it was off to Steve Dietz's Florida Pontiac Restoration. The interior was replaced leaving few of the original parts. The engine was rebuild from the block up. The engine looks stock less a myriad of emissions controls. We went with Ram Air exhaust manifolds, a Summit racing cam, head work was done, a 750 Edelbrock Quadrajet, a high volume fuel pump and the car now has true dual exhaust to twin Flowmaster mufflers. Front end parts were replaced to provide more road feel, and the stick was rebuilt to provide for a more precise shift.

The body was taken apart and parts were stripped down to bare metal. It was then epoxy primed, received four coats of base and three coasts of high solids, PPG Concept clear. The car now has a beautiful paint job, and resembles very little the car I bought on Ebay.

The car is a real hoot to drive, and the deep sound from the exhaust system doesn't allow me to sneak into the neighborhood. However the cherry on top of this project are the Florida plates which read 79 TA-400. That is for those in the know who come up from behind at traffic lights.

Regards,
Chris Riccio

"it is a 1979 y84 special edition with ws6 handling package, 403/350th, t-top, loaded up with tilt, pwr wind, trunk, vinyl interior upgrade,a/c. it is a phs documented car. 86000 miles. no rust or dents or scratches. a few door dings. original mechanicals in numbers matching car. no customization. i have had some body and paint work done, not an entire paint job. new 255/60-15 white letter tires on the 8 in honeycombs, which i polished with a wheel on my drill and mothers. came out pretty nice, but not like yours? i have been finding missing minor parts and only lack a drivers sun visor and bracket presently. i have basically been detailing it to within an inch of its life since getting it for a low price in 9/04. i have used information on your website often and appreciate it. thank you if you can post my car for a while. thanks.
