Carpet

If your carpeting has seen better days, this is an easy and relatively inexpensive fix to that problem. Most of the major distributors like Year One, Paddock Parts, Classic Industries, etc., have the replacement carpet kits in just about every color for your car. The prices range from about $99 to around $140 depending on what you need. They also sell new sound deadening or carpet underlayment as well for about $55. This took me about 4 hours to do from start to finish. So for less than $150 and 4 hours of time you will have a nice brand new carpet installed. Most of the interior work is pretty simple to do. Most of it encompasses just removing a few screws and bolts and you are on your way. You of course have to remove everything on the floor of the car. If you really look at the entire interior of a Trans Am
(besides the dash) there are only about 64 screws that hold everything in place. The first thing that you need to do is remove all of your seats. Now, if you read about finding your build sheet on this website, you know the rear seats are pretty easy to remove. For the lower seat back bottoms, you need to push back on them towards the trunk and lift up and they come right out. For the rear seats back cushion, there are two bolts on the bottom of the seat. Remove those two bolts and the rear seat back willl lift straight up and out of the car.
Now with the rear seats out, you can remove the front seats (heck, you could even remove the front seats first to get them out of the way... either way works). The front seats are held in by four bolts on the four corners of the seat tracks. These are 1/2 inch in size. The easiest thing to do is slide the seat all the way forward and remove the back two bolts first. You might need to use an open end to get these bolts out because there isn't alot of clearance to get a socket in there. But, slide the seats all the way forward to get at the two rear bolts. Once those are removed, then slide the seat all the way back to get the front two bolts out. After all four
of the bolts are out, the only thing holding you back from taking the seats out is the seat belt guide. The seat belt guide just clips into place. You can push the guide all the way down and pry out the top half of the guide (or push them all the way up and remove the lower half... it is six and one half dozen of the other as far as which you do) and the guide will come off. Now you are free to remove the front seats. Duplicate this for each side of the car.

Ok, so now most of the work is done in this process. You now have to remove the center console. This also is a fairly easy process to do since there are only four bolts that hold the center console in the car. All the way up at the front of the console are two bolts that bolt to the underside of the dash. Take those two bolts out and mark them. Now, to get at the other two remaining bolts, you have to remove the center console box. Inside the center console box, there are two screws that hold this in. Remove the two screws and the console box will slide right up and out. Now, look in there and you will see the last two remaining bolts that hold the console in. Now that doesn't mean you are free to take it out just yet. It just means that it is not bolted in anymore. If you have a four speed car and no power windows, then you can put the car into second gear and lift the console out. But if you have an automatic car with power windows then there are a few more steps to take. Removing the power window switch is easy.... just unplug it. But the other thing you have to do on an automatic car is remove the shifter plate. To do this you need to pull out the shift button knob. The emblem on top just pulls out of there. Once that is out, there is a "C" clip on the shaft that you have to remove with either a clip removal tool or just a screwdriver and needle nose pliers will work. Once you pop that clip off, the shift knob will slid off. Now, all you have to do is remove the four screws at the four corners of the shift plate and remove that. When you are taking that out of there, there is also a light bulb that plugs into the back of that shifter plate that you have to remove.
