Butler Performance sells the proper oil pump primer tool for Pontiacs. It works like it should, and will get those bearings full of oil. The torque required to spin an oil pump will smoke the motor on an 18v drill or 3/8" drill- use an electric 1/2" drill.

I contacted Butler, and with the shipping it will cost ~$37 to get sent here. Seems excessive to have to pay that much for a $15-20 dollar tool and that puts it in buying a used distributor territory and I wouldn't have to wait 1-2 weeks to get the part.

Can someone verify yes or no if the chevy tool can be used or not?

A long broken screwdriver will work.  The bottom of the distributor just has a slot for the screwdriver to go in.  If you put that on a 1/2 drill as stated it should work well.

I'd stick with 4speeds suggestion as a single long screwdriver is the cheapest answer to spin up the oil pressure.  Someone once said if "if you don't have the right tool, make it".  This is a perfect example.
