I am looking for UNMOLESTED a/c wiring. Specifically the wiring for the compressor that attaches to the main a/c harness, as well as the extension designed for the 301/350/400 engine with the alternator on the driver's side. If I can get the whole a/c harness with the wiring attachments included that would be mint but I would settle for just the compressor attachment and the power extension. If you are not sure what I am talking about check out the tech talk tab of the hogs head website (link at the bottom) and see what they have to say about the a/c wiring in the options link.
http://www.firebirdtransamparts.com If that doesn't help, send me an message and I will try to better explain.

Thanks,
Andrew

That red wire from the alternator probably can be purchased from painless.  I've found the A/C harnesses on ebay but usually they have one or more connector cut off.  You should get a quote from painless and weigh buying a new one versus a used one.  I have one spare A/C harness that did have that red wire to the alternator that I will probably use on my Y88.  But I took pity on John007 from this forum and gave him that red wire since he was missing his.

I'm not much of an electrician so I was hoping to find wires that had the right plugs so I don't screw up the wiring. Does painless wires come with the right plugs? What about http://www.wiringharness.com/? Look up 78 firebird... is part #38633 (a/c compressor jumper harness, from compressor to main engine harness 350 & 400 V8) what I'm looking for? How can I tell if I have/need the idle stop solenoid?

Painless wiring comes with the right connectors.  It's plug and play.  The idle stop solenoid is a green wire with a black stripe.  You should see a solenoid on the drivers side of you Carb.  That solenoid has a terminal that the black connector of the green wire with a black stripe plugs into.

The purpose of the solenoid is to increase the idle rate when the air conditioning is turned on.  You don't want that green wire with a black stripe to ground because it will short the circuit.  The reason I mention this is that wire on my Y88 is missing the connector and was laying on the intake manifold.  There's some really dumb people who think they're mechanics working on these cars.  The new people on this forum are probably in that category.  I know I was at one time and still am in some area's.  But if they stick with it, they will all become experts by learning from a bunch of smart people who visit this forum.  I learn new things every day.

One of the smart people just posted the picture above.
