Small rust hole in fuel sending units supply line
«

I was cleaning up the fuel sending unit and uncovered a rust hole a little larger than a ball point pen on the supply line. I don't want to spend the $$$'s on a new sending unit.
Is there a way to patch the hole...epoxy's, sodder, etc.?
The only thing I can come up with is to cut out a small section and replace it with a rubber line.
Thanks.

You could cut and flare the line so you could just screw on a new line. But that depends on where exactly, pictures would help.

Don't mess around with a fuel leak.
Drop the tank and replace the sending unit.
Not worth your life or the car going up in flames.
Not fun trying to put out a fire.

Why would replacing the lines cause the car to go up in flames? Its a simple job, depending on where it is.

The old join the line with a rubber hose trick. Yeah, someone replaced the carb on my Y88 and installed a chevy carb. They cut the fuel line and joined it with a rubber hose to accommodate the side inlet. It leaked. It leaked a whole lot. Good thing I had the car towed to my house when I bought it rather than drive it. It was well worth the $300 tow fee.
I would replace the line if I were you. The one hole could mean the line is bad in other places. They're only something like $66 plus shipping unless you go with stainless.....which is what I would do. I wouldn't join the two spots with a rubber hose. The replacement line will need to be joined just like the old line (it's a two piece unit). But those joints are made to accommodate the hose.
On the other hand, you could run a rubber hose from the tank to the front joint near the door. Just secure it to the frame or leave the old line in and secure to that. That might be better than cutting the line and trying to join it. Or do it right by flaring the line like anderson0741 said to do.
