Title: '76 - Parting out, well sort of
Post by: OD_Simple on April 30, 2011, 07:52:27 PM
Hello,

I'm looking to upgrade my '76 a bit.  Two years ago I began the extensive process of adding a 10 pt. cage with ladder bars, a tub'd trunk, and an entire new rear end with disc brakes.  Along the way I had my interior finished.

Since the work was complete, I've put less than 500 miles on the car.  It currently has 34,000 original miles and hasn't seen rain or snow since 1978.  It was completely restored in 1985.

I'm looking to upgrade my front seats by replacing them with Recaro's.  Three years ago I had my current front seats (original front seats) re done.  They are drop dead gorgeous.

I'm also interested in pulling out my numbers matching powerplant (engine w/ the factory 4 speed).

I'm not really aware of how much I should put my front seats and powerplant up for (engine and trans).  Again, any help would be great.

Removing the numbers matching drive-train is always an option if you are looking to upgrade but I would strongly recommend against selling it. Store it away for the day you might decide to sell the car or decide to restore to original...once it's gone, it's gone (and so is the value associated with a numbers matching car).

Well the car will never be for sale.  It will stay in the family...forever.  My father bought it new (ordered it in the Spring of '75) and gave it to me in 2005.

Here are some photos, it will never/cannot go back to original at this point...

I agree with Jeff. His absolutely  100% correct. You would be making a big mistake.

Wow, i doff my hat to you Sir.

Thats something that if funding would allow i would be very interested in doing.

I can understand the feeling towards an original car, but i DO love what youve done so far, keep it coming.

Are you going to leave the exterior looking standard ?

I plan on keeping everything as stock as possible.  My only changes will be low profile drag radials with a larger radius wheel.  I may tint all the glass as well.  I will be keeping the shaker no matter what, mounted to whatever powerplant...NOT ATTACHED TO THE HOOD!
