Topic: 70-77 radio opening with 1978 factory radio.

Bought a new OER dash for my 1978 Y88 years ago. I dyed it, completely installed it. I have been running no radio, so today I decided to put the factory radio in. It turns out it is a early dash 1970-1977 and factory 1978 delco it wont fit? So I am wondering what other people who have actually had this problem have done?
I really want to use my newly rebuilt 1978 Delco AM/FM.
I am thinking I need to modify/remove the top edge of the radio opening and drill the shaft holes closer together, then shim out to the 1978 radio and cover plate.
It "LOOKS" like that will work.
I am hating cutting.... on a brand new Dash.... to find out it still wont work.

That's right, the dash was only reproduced for the earlier year type. I can't offer other suggestions, except to compare a 78 dash radio cut out next to it. Or get an original radio cut for 78+. strip the cover off it so just a frame section, remove portion of frame around 77 dash and try to leave the skin intact until final fitting and add bezel.

I have the original dash.. Well I have the original everything that ever came with this car, in storage.

Oh, I wasn't sure if your original dash was cut and it would be easier to compare with a smaller part.

But rather than try to cut up the 77 version, you may be able to partially graft in the frame from a 78 version, or perhaps sections of it epoxied into place. I'm not sure how their 77 version looks from the rear. Don't cut any of the tan skin, just the frame behind it. That's how I planned to do mine with grafting an original section into a cut section. In the end it was too much trouble with the radio and speakers so didn't bother. Just an idea.
