What exact years of Trans Am did Burt Reynolds drive as the Bandit in all of his movies?

1977 Y82 Special Edition, then ive never seen the second one but I believe it was a 1980 Special Edition Turbo

from what ive read the cars in STB 1 were '76s w/ '77 noses. i think hooper was a '78

And for those that didn't know, the movie was originally going to have a 1976 50th Anniversary with a 455, but high demand for the cars on the civilian market pushed the movie back to 1977, and since the 400 wasn't the powertrain that they felt would offer the type of performance they needed, they put a 455 from 76 into the 77

SATB II - 1980 Special Edition T-top auto 301 turbo

At least that was what they wanted you to believe the car was in both movies, regardless of what parts, motors, NOS, year, etc people have been told throughout the years.

I thought they were factory except the producer wanted one with 750 hp for the bridge jump?

I have also heard all kinds of variations on how many cars the producers got from Pontiac. Some say 3. some say 5.  All of the stories end the same way- by the end of the movie only one was left and barely running on canniballized parts from the others!  Who knows?

I remember reading it somewhere. I have it on dvd.. and it has a bonus feature on making the movie. Maybe i'll watch it lol I never knew there was so much confusion on this movie

Hal told at us the POCI convention that they "pushed" the car into the last scene with Burt in it.

And yeah, they put a SBC NASCAR motor in the jump car. He said the Pontiac motor wouldn't get the car up to speed fast enough. And that car was trashed as soon as it landed.

One thing for sure, the cars were crushed/destroyed after filming. From the way Hal talks, I don't think there was much left to crush.

He did say that the reason he wanted the TA was because he saw a picture of one of those black and gold TA's with the T tops. He didn't say if it was a 76 or 77. I'm thinkng it's this picture. He thought that Burt would look sexy coming up out of T tops.
