I just referred to the 77 body manual.  Figure 5-4 shows one screw going into the door for Pontiac F body.  For Pontiac B body it shows two screws.  However, the end caps in the manual look like the black ones above.  I wonder if the deluxe interior came with chrome end caps, or if my daughter's got changed out.  I kind of doubt that they were changed because the car only had 56K miles on it when we got it.  But anythings possible.

Geez, this is one confusing thread to read  :D :D

The type of "caps" used on the straps were a mid-'76 change...early used the chrome "metal buckle" with a colored plastic cap/cover...and later (and into '77) used the "chromed" plastic cap.

I have a 78 with the 2nd buckle design fellows. I just pulled the PDF copy of the title up and it's a 77. How about that. I bought the car years ago for a parts car and the guy said it was a 78.

So i stand corrected. The design changed in 76. So there are 76 and 77's with the same pull straps and the 78 and up had the big plastic door pull that was mounted to the door with big sheet metal screws. Am I right now?

I think you're all squared away now.

The picture of that strap in the 77 body manual shows the buckle.  Looks like they didn't update it from the 76 manual.

This was sent to me from another member. Does everyone agree this is how they should be installed? Just so we are all clear I do have the 77 style as pictured above. It seems we are all a little confused as to how these install. Thanks again for all the help guys.

Sounds like you have everything you need. Ok with the door panel off you put the metal strap on the backside of the door panel and put the pull strap on the front side. Then you should have 4 little screws that will attach the two together pinching the door panel between them. Put the screws in from the backside. Then put the door panel on the door. Then there should be two big screws that go through the center of the chrome caps on each end and screw into the door. After that you just snap them little caps in place and your done.

sounds right mine had 2 screws at each end but that could have been modified over the years.

I was told 77 got the pull , standard and deluxe.  76 - older was just deluxe.  if I was told worng I need to know..

and my doors have the holes, put in by GM , so the holes are there. but no evidence of a screw being in the holes on mine.

i am uncertain to it either i thought it was just like the dash, no pull strap on the dash meant no door pulls on the doors for 77 and older. could be wrong i dont know.

I believe the chrome bezels had room for only one screw going through the door on each side.  I don't have an example to look at though, but that's what I recall.

I don't know how one would close the door without a pull strap.  What was GM thinking?
