'79 TATA Gas Tank Finish
« on: August 01, 2012, 10:41:24 AM »
Replacing the gas tank in the TATA.  Were the tanks, originally bare metal or painted?  My memory fails me (and at the time I had my original TATA, I spent more time exploring the interior than underneath the car. ;D)

Thanks Eroc.  Is that the "Tank Tone" rattle can paint Eastwood sells?

Yeah kinda, the tank tone is a paint, from the factory it was kind of a galvanized zinc coating to prevent the tank from rusting. If you have the tank out and sending unit out, the inside is the same look.

This is a brand new tank, still in the box.  The original looks to far gone and would need a patch (there's a hole rusted through).  The new one looks to be raw galvanized metal with a light coat of oil (maybe?).

The old one looks to have been undercoated.

I've tried to think back to what the one on my original one looked like in 79, but I can't recall for certain.  Not that it really matters.  I'm not looking to make a show car out of this, but a nice weekend, fair weather, cruiser.

Thanks.  Can't think clearly, to many paint fumes lately.

Yes, the new tank is coated with a protective plating, so it's ready to use as it is.

Thanks for the help Eroc and Grand73Am.  Hope to have the tank and new fuel lines in and test fire this old 403 as soon as I can get the fuel lines shipped in and installed.
