Post by: transamrich on November 07, 2011, 08:48:24 AM
Hi everyone,i am new to the forum,i have a 75 ta with stock intake.
It was my fathers car and it has been in storage since 82,i am currently
trying to recomission the car.
I would like to de-smog the car and fit an edelbrock intake, does any one
know if i can do this but retain my original rochester carb?
many thanks Rich.

My 78 is de-smogged, it runs awesome, the performer is the one i used,it doesn't use the egr, I ground off the name and painted it. The choke tube had to be cut off, and the linkage had to be played with a little. and yes the q-jet works, my orig is on there, w/ no shaker issues. The exhaust manifold on the 78 400 are lame, I used the HO type, wich gets rid of the efe valve too.

I left the char. canister hooked up thats it. get your dist re-curved, and a perf kit in the carb, I got one from NUNZI in brooklin NY. He has everything, and has been doing Pontiacs for a long time. I might add the 1:65 rocker kit if it works with all the stock pcs.

Only thing I would suggest is to check with your local DMV/BMV to make sure you are emissions exempt before you remove any smog equipment. Better safe than sorry.

One thing I like about NY is that the 2nd gens are emissions exempt so no cats, no smog, no sniff test, not even a visual inspect on the exhaust.
