Year One 17x9 snow flakes
« on: January 12, 2010, 10:17:08 AM »
Anyone else have a set of the 17x9 year one snow flakes? I will be putting mine on in the spring but I have still not been able to decide on the tire size to go with. I have a worn out 245 / 45 / 17 I got from a buddy to possibly mock up with. Want to go with maximum width without rubbing & not have a profile that's so low that it looks dumb.

                                                                  Thanks ~ Terry

My car is on a 255/50 ZR17 all the way around with stock suspension and I seem to not have an issue except if I hit a major bump which makes the fronts rub.  I have heard about guys running a 285/40 17 rear and 255/45 17 front tire (late C4 Corvette setup) and that works as well on that rim.

I'm running 255 45 R17 all the way around with lowered Hotchkis suspension with no rubbing anywhere.

Thanks to everybody for the helpful info , I won't be lowering the car so I'll get something in the 50's to fill the wheel wells out.

Thanks again everyone!  ;D  ~  Terry

hi I just purchased 17x9 silver snowflakes for my 1977 Trans Am from Year One. They told me to use 275/40/17 but I think this will make for a harsh ride and a big fender gap. I think I will try Continental 255/45/17. These are the ContactSport3 or the Michelin Pilot sport.
Big problem is will 9 inch wide rims fit the 255????
Any advice out there???? 275/40/17  or 255/45/17  ????
I cant find a good tire that is 255/50/17

Here is how my stock suspension (WS6) car sits with the 255/50 ZR17 tires on it... http://www.78ta.com/smf/index.php?topic=17711.15 They're Kumho Ecsta Stp tires I bought off of tirerack and they seem to work fine for how I have the car set up (stock).  Shoot Dave at ptfb or some other knowledgeable source an email to get some possible recommendations for a tire choice.  I have heard but can't confirm, based upon my own experience, that the 275/40 with rub the sway bar at full turn in the front.  Next time around I will be trying the late C4 corvette (285 rear/255 front) along with ptfb competition suspension.  Don't use me as example though, I'm NOT an expert on the subject of discussion :)

Hi
Just put the Silver 17x9 Year One Snow Flakes on my car. I used Michelin Pilot sport 255/45/17 tires and it rides great. Need to get used to the fact that the car is much more responsive on turns. I get no rubbing at all in the fender wells.
I recommend the Michelins but they are really pricey - but I think worth it.
Now with the bigger rims I can upgrade the Brakes...

Try this ... it will kick out your tire diamter (height), sidewall height, section width (how wide) and tells you what size rim the tire can be mounted on ...
