Why do GM called the hood scoop "shaker"? Does it open when the engine get rep up?

DEPENDS ON YEAR    THE SHAKER COMES FROM WHEN YOU FIRE THAT PONTIAC 400 TORQUE MONSTER UP AND SMASH THE GAS TO FLOOR THE WHOLE ENGINE WILL ROCK TO ONE SIDE AND BACK

they call it a shaker cause its supposed to shake along with the engine when the engine moves from the tourqe
