Hey all, Been a long time since I have posted here hope all is well.
SO I am going to install a FiTech TBI EFI system and am going to use a high pressure pump in a self-contained sump. Doing this I need to feed the sump unit with a low pressure pump, so I decided to look for an OEM style in-tank pump. Going this route will make things a lot easier and more simple. My question is does anyone have an idea of what vehicle came with an in-tank pump that will fit my needs? I am looking for something with 30 psi or lower ans at least 40 gph flow. I plan on modding the Rob Mc pickup I have and mount it directly to the 1/2" tubing it comes with and attaching a DIY very low profile bracket to support the pump so the pump pickup/strainer will set at the factory pickup tube height.
Any suggestions for the pump would be appreciated. I want an OEM style pump so I can get one at a decent price. I looked at some fuel-cell lift pumps and I think the $200+ they want for them is stupid money when maybe a 1st gen GM TBI pump will work.
Thanks in advance!
Ron
UPDATE: After a lot more research I found the perfect pump to feed an EFI sump OR to replace a mechanical pump for a carb if you want to. The pump came out of a 1985 FORD E-350 7.5L 460 and the pump is a CARTER P90076 min3 psi up to 6.5 psi and flows a min of 40 gph. This pump has an offset outlet making the whole unit look like a "U" so with the outlet installed the pump is automatically next to the pickup tube making it very easy to clear sending unit and return flow as well as allowing for hose clamps to be installed to hold it to the tube. Lastly with this pump I only needed to cut about an inch off of the bottom of the pickup tube to get the right height so the pump inlet and strainer is only about an 1/8" off the bottom of the tank. Hope this helps someone.
