1 owner 1980 macho trans am value
« on: April 29, 2011, 07:01:13 PM »
Hey guys I need your help on a value. I have an opportunity to get a 1980 turbo macho trans am from its original owner. Needs full restoration but every single part is there. Dash is perfect and no rust.  Engine probably needs a full rebuild. What do u think its worth?

Here's some pics...

To me it looks like a regulaer Turbo Trans Am. Why do you say it is a "Macho" Trans Am?

It has a stripe that comes out across the top of the door and then it says MACHO TURBO. Then on the B pillar it has a 4 with a DKM under it.

I dont see a dash plaque or any indications in the interior. I spoke to Dennis Mecham yesterday and he said it sounded like it could be one of his but that they maybe didnt even produce 20 because the 301 turbo was a hard car to get any perfromance out of.

So, with that being said, i dont know what a good price for it would be. Would it be good from a parts car standpoint? How much could you make doing that?

check out 301 garage website for more info on the turbo cars.  if it is a real macho its worth alot more than a plain ol turbo t/a.  as a parts car its worth about $2000-$3000 if the body is rust free & dash is good...

i can tell you that cold air intake tube will bring $200+ all day long!

It is a real Macho TA, just hard to see the details in the pic. I ended up buying the car yesterday at a garage sale. From all of the digging I can find it is #4 of 6 made. The car has 89K original miles and hasn't been registered since 1991. I have the title that is dated 1981 and it is listed as a Pontiac Macho right on the original title as well. The owners kid broke the key off in the ignition I guess years ago so I changed the ignition switch, changed the oil, checked the fluids and threw a battery in it, poured a little gas in the carb and it fired right up. The nice thing is this car has NEVER been tampered with, no wires have ever been cut, no bubbas got to the car at all...it is 100% original every where you look. I would love to learn more about the Macho TAs if anyone has any more info.

so what modifications did dkm do to the turbo machos?  or was it just decals they put on & called it a macho?  would be curious to know what performance mods they did.  & if you havent already,  sign up & post it at 301 garage,  members there would like to see it im sure.
