Topic: 72 or 73 400

I just located a pont. 400 that was said to come out of a 72 formula. It has been taken apart and cyl. honed ,crank polished ,new valve guides, 4-x heads ,new cam brgs,comes w/e/brock intake and original 4brl. int. and all the original parts that was taken out or off it I don't remember seeing a carb. Is this package worth 400.00 bucks Need an answer as soon as poss. Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If he has receipts and you can see the work, sure it's worth it. Is the engine still disassembled?

and if the work wasnt done 2 years ago or something..   are they getting rusty ?   how was the crank stored?  installed I hope.

He brought the stuf w/him from fla ,I don't think he has any paper work .The block appears to be unrusted and the swirl marks in the cyl. walls are visable , The heads and the crank are in plastic and appear to be clean w/no rust .The crank is not installed but it is in a plastic bag of some sort . It is presently in a dry garage and appears he has kept everything dry .He said the car was a driver before a tree fell on the car and it sat for a period of time before he got the motor out it !

OH I forgot the ? about it being assembled ,NO, but I guess you can figure that out but the the rest of the info !!!!!LOL It is a yt code if that matters !!!

I think what 4 speed was trying to say is that crank storage is important . When it is out of the engine it must be stored upright or it will be out of spec and destroy bearings . Most people just let them sit on there side which is a big no no

So not knowing how this crank has been stored over time means this is not worth buying if I can get it for a little less should I get it ? Can a machine shop tell if it has a problem ?

Yes, either way...$400.00 isn't that bad of a deal. But, if you can haggle, do so.
