Lockable engine hood
photojoe:
Is there a way to secure the hood so that it cannot be opened by anyone?
Wallington:
Only by adding an aftermarket hood lock, early years had them as an accessory. The 2-stage latch pull makes them not suitable for a cabin pull cable, a factory error and bad design.
There was an interior mounted aftermarket style lock that simply pushed and pulled a pin that either lined up with a bracket or could be used to interrupt the stock latch pull.
RENOVATIONS:
A member here posted a "how-to" on this topic (moving hood release to the interior of the car) several years ago.
I saved the pictures and text but unfortunately don't recall who it was.
I believe it was on a '78 model (using the hood release cable vs the handle-style release you'd use (your profile says you have a '76...?) but you're welcome to the info I have if you think it may lend you some ideas.
I can email it to you if you like.

Those were the times when you didn't have to lock the fuel filler cap and bonnet, but now I don't feel comfortable knowing that everyone can open the hood. It must be possible to build something with a small padlock if necessary.
It would be great if you could send me the infos.

Thank you
RENOVATIONS:
Agreed...unfortunately those days are long gone I fear.
Email sent, Joe
