70 manual transmission console question
« on: December 02, 2019, 09:58:42 PM »
Manual transmission consoles have the plastic bezel around the shifter. The re-pops have the chrome trim but some photos for 1970's I see they are just black.  Does anyone know how the 1970's originally came?  Thanks for any info.

I think the earlier year cars had chrome trim on black plastic bezel (confirmed). Looking at older photos it appears they had them. That chrome plating comes off over time, it may be that they all had it and over time they lost it.  I checked the Ames catalog, they only sell the chrome one. My bet is that Firebirds had chrome and Camaros did not. The metal plate bolted to the floor was definitely chrome if you do not have a center console, you can google "1970 Firebird brochure" and see original pictures.
