I no what you were saying, a cap is just that. A CAP. but that all we got right now.  and the juges dont dock you for them. but if we ever get a repop dash I'm sure the cap will be taboo.

Yeah I totally understand man. It's definitely not money friendly  haha.

That's kinda crazy that they would dock it when the price of a new one would be like $500. They have to realize that some people just can't afford something like that you know?

its all about the show.  my steering wheel for my 68 is about 500.00 and a repop is 140.00 (nice but not correct) like the dash cap.
witch one will look better to a judge at a show.  thats just saying if the judge knows what he or she is looking at.

The cap does not look that bad and since my car will be garaged most of time, I'm to worried about warping.

Now the big question is should I spend the extra money and get it painted by them with a 50/50 chance of not matching.

I figure I'll need to redye the glove box and under steering wheel panels no matter what, but if I knew the exact dye for the tan dash I could just use that.

I'm also considering repairing my original. Done it before on a flat dash and it looked ok. Has anyone tried to repair their dash and not the bondo method shown in: http://www.78ta.com/smf/index.php?topic=6220.0

Just a suggestion...

What you could do is go to an auto paint supply store and have them mix you up a quart or two of interior dye. Use it to redye your dash and any other interior parts that need a little sprucing and that way you know it will match dead on.
