What's It Worth??
« on: July 18, 2007, 12:33:22 AM »
Pardon my ignorance on 3rd gens but...
I stopped and looked at a GTA today; no engine/trans, tan interior, red body (warped nose and deteriorated wrap-around rear spoiler), 16" gold lace rims, digital dash, etc. Aside from the nose and spoiler, the body looked great aside from 1 dent on top of LH fender.

I don't have much more info on it as the dealer (small lot) was closed but the price is pretty reasonable all things considered IMO. I'm just curious what you guys think....any particular value on a GTA, or the rims themselves (WS6 center caps)??? I'll post the price after I get some opinions on this...thanks :)

Not much considering that it is a roller. I've seen nice looking, running GTA's go for $4,000-$6,000 depending on the miles and condition. These cars don't pop up very often any more so they are getting kind of rare. It seems that they were run into the ground 10-15 years ago by spoiled rich kids. I won't pay over $500.00 for it, especially if it doesn't have a drivetrain. There is a ratty '85-'88 Firebird down the road from me for $300.00. It's black with green patchs on the hood and fenders. Who knows if the engine even runs.....

Thanks for the input, Milly (your estimate on price is VERY close to price in windshield). I thought I recalled the rims being sought after....
I have been looking for a '82-'86 T/A for some time but haven't found what I want yet...this isn't it either :-\ but I am curious as to the value of it. Keep the opinions coming....

I agree with Milly above.  I have sold a few Trans Ams and GTAs that were third gen's some had low mileage and even the most expensive one sold for about $6,000.  So, with no motor and no tranny with some body work needed to be done, I would agree that around $500 would be a good price for it.  Yes, the GTA rims themselves can sell for about $400 for a good set.

The GTA gold lace wheels are a popular upgrade to the 2nd gen cars. One of the guys that visits here and TAC put a set on his T/A a few months ago.

The price on the windshield is $533 (odd price ::) )...Milly and Brett are right on the money with their estimates ;)

I am thinking of buying it for a future project; the sale of the wheels would pretty much finance the car but I don't know if I wanna' risk it and go to the hassle. Thanks for the help, guys....more opinions are still welcome also :)

I believe you are right, Rick

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was Logikfive Rick, good memory.  :)

Jeff, without a drivetrain, I think I would pass. Unless you've got plans of pure Poncho power for the GTA.  ;)

I think you are right, Milly...I have my hands full now anyway ::)
I'll just keep my eyes open for an '82-'86 T/A like I want. If anyone is interested in this GTA, I can get more info and/or pix.

How does one go about repairing a damaged aluminum wheel?

I'm would be fascinated to learn how this is done.

Please don't say "Take it to a wheel shop...."   :P

I won't say it,
But you "send" it to a wheel shop.
