hello everyone i got a question here
« on: November 28, 2007, 10:20:50 PM »
i am about to get my first T/A
i am swinging between a 1980 indy pace car (56k mls).
or a 10th anniversary (6.000k mls).
i am curious about the value of both cars
and any performance differences between the 6.6 and the 4.9 turbo engine.
thanks in advance

10th ann. with the miles would be my target.  As far as performance goes, you would be alot happier with the 6.6 than the turbo car, just my opinion.  Good luck with your purchase.

Welcome to 78ta ceedee.  I don't know the answer to your question however, someone will be along shortly that will know.  Looking forward to seeing your purchase and again, welcome to the site.

I would go for the 79, even if it weren't a 10th anniversary car as long as it had a 400 or 403.  That 10th anniversary car is worth quite a bit.  What are the asking prices of both cars?  I remember when they came out with the turbo's.  I was disappointed that they went to the trouble of turbo charging the smaller engines and eliminated the bigger engines.  I would have preferred a turbo charged 400.  But with what was happening with gas prices and emissions controls, the bigger engines were doomed.

The problem with paying a premium for low mileage, and the premium is quite high, is that once you start driving the car the premium disappears.  But if you plan on making it a garage queen, the value would be retained.

In the mid eighties you could pick up a low mileage T/A for three or four thousand dollars.  I remember going to a car show where they were selling cars and thinking...why would I ever buy a new car?

But whatever T/A you buy you'll love it.

both cars actually come with automatic.
however, the price of the 10th anniversary is just under 40 grand.
the other is 5 k.

You'd be paying somewhere around $25K premium for the low mileage.  At least that's my guess, other's can chime in as well.

If the 80 is in nice shape, you'd probably like that one as much.  But, the 10th is a very desirable car.  It depends on how much money you're willing to spend and what you want to do with the car.  If you've got lots of cash and want to buy the 10th to use as a daily driver rather than some brand new rice rocket....I could understand.  What you buy depends on your situation.

All I can say is I'm glad I have a T/A and I always will own one until the day I die.

i have a 10th anniversary and used to have a 80 formula with the turbo 301 and from only both the 10th anniversary car is nice and a blast to drive but there was something that made the 301 turbo fun to drive too if they were both the same money i would say go for the 10th but for that much differance in money you can have alot more funwith the 80 and can drive it with the 10th having that low of miles it will lose value the more you drive it

::) hmmm  ::)
apparently the car is in better shape than they initially thought and the price for it is going to be 10 grand.
the interior is in great shape and all the car really needs to have done is the fluids changed and the hood painted and of course a
new bird for the hood.
still a good deal? what could i sell the car for , if i would decide so?
OHHHH BTW they said it is defenetely a original 1980 indy pace car , not a clone.
